Our Story

At Lewis Security, our story began in 1995 when our founder, Mark K. Lewis, was working as a Police officer. 

Chief Lewis noticed two significant challenges. 

  1. Most businesses and communities did not have proper security measures in place. 
  2. Many police officers experienced challenges finding employment after they left the police force. 

He also noticed that the locations that had security officers, were not happy with the service they received. Mark decided to do his part to solve the problem. He started Lewis Security and started hiring off duty or former police officers. By using officers with law enforcement training he could provide the best protection and help keep current and former police officers employed. 

Lewis Security started protecting their first account, Darling International in 1995. From that point on, Lewis Security began to expand its reach and provide security services to businesses across the region.

As time passed, Lewis Security recognized the growing demand for security services in the Medical Cannabis Industry. Mark saw protecting cannabis locations as his way to keep medical cannabis out of the hands of criminals. With their expertise in providing quality security service and his team of officers with law enforcement experience, Lewis Security began to provide security services to this emerging industry. Today, Lewis Security is one of the most trusted security companies in Maryland, providing exceptional security services to businesses, residential communities, and event organizers.

Awarded three Exceptional Duty Awards (1995,1999, 2005)

Received four Letters of Recognition from the FBI Baltimore Field office (1994, 2000, 2008, 2008)

Received two awards from DEA (1998, 2000)

As a Narcotics Investigator involved in well over 2500 Narcotics Arrests

Supervised four long term undercover operations and was a sworn member of DEA’s OCDETF Task Force which led to well over 200 Midlevel and Street Dealers arrested and convicted.

As a Criminal Investigator/Supervisor involved in at least 16 Homicide Investigations with a 100% arrest and conviction rate.

In 2008 attended and graduated from the FBI National Academy 233 Session. Proud to be one of only nine Cambridge Police Officers to ever attend this prestigious academy.

Mark worked his way up through the ranks of the Cambridge Police Department from a Probationary Patrolman to his last rank of Police Chief. Mark Was Chief of Police from April 2017 until his Retirement in August 2022. Mark retired to concentrate his efforts on Lewis Security Services.
